# Channel Configuration — General

The **General** page is the entry point of the Channel Configuration. Here you define the channel's basic details: the **name**, the responsible **team**, the **email inbox address**, and the **time per document before Workist**.

These settings are product-independent. They affect every channel the same way, whether it is an order, invoice, or price request channel.

## Prerequisites

- Permission to configure channels (**Manager** and **Admin** roles), see [Users, roles & teams](/en/docs/administration/users-and-roles.md).
- At least one **team** that you can assign the channel to. Teams are managed under **Settings → Teams**; this needs permission to manage employees and teams (**Manager** and **Admin** roles).

## Step 1 — Open the "General" section

Open the [Channel Configuration](/en/docs/channel-configuration.md) and, in the middle navigation under **General**, select the entry of the same name. The form with the four basic settings appears.

## Step 2 — Configure the fields

| Field | Required | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Channel Name** | Yes | The name of the channel visible to users (e.g., "Orders DE", "Incoming Invoices Collective Account"). Appears in the sidebar and in the overview. |
| **Team** | Yes | Which team processes the documents of this channel. Only members of this team see the channel and its documents. The default team appears in the list under your organization's name. Details on visibility: [Users, roles & teams](/en/docs/administration/users-and-roles.md). |
| **Email Inbox Address** | — | The address to which emails for this channel are sent. **Not editable**: it is made up of your organization's short name and the inbox name from the [email configuration](/en/docs/channel-configuration/incoming-documents.md). The address is shown even when the email inbox is disabled. |
| **Time per document before Workist (in seconds)** | No | How long, on average, an employee needed per document before Workist was introduced. Workist uses the value in [Analytics](/en/docs/administration/analytics.md) to calculate the time saved. **Default: 270 seconds (4.5 minutes).** You can change the value but not clear it: an empty field or 0 is ignored on save, and the previous value is kept. |

:::note A team change takes effect immediately
Documents do not belong to a team themselves; they are visible through their channel. When you change the **team**, **all** documents of the channel move to the new team immediately: open documents in assistance as well as completed ones in the archive. Members of the old team lose access at once.

## Step 3 — Save

Click **Save** in the bottom right. On success, a confirmation appears briefly ("The channel was updated successfully."). If **Channel Name** or **Team** is left empty, the form blocks saving and displays a corresponding notice.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Can I change the email inbox address?**
Not in this section. The inbox address is controlled via the **inbox name** in the [Incoming Documents → Email](/en/docs/channel-configuration/incoming-documents.md) section and is assembled automatically.

**How do I copy the channel's email address?**
In the channel's document list, via **Send file...** → **Copy channel email address**.

**Where do I create new teams?**
Under **Settings → Teams**. Only teams created there are available for selection in the *Team* field.

**Why do I need "Time per document before Workist"?**
Solely for evaluating the time saved in **Analytics**. This value has no effect on the processing of the documents themselves. If you have no comparison figure of your own, Workist uses the default of 270 seconds.

## Help and Support

If the channel name appears incorrectly in overviews, employees cannot see the channel, or the email inbox is not working, contact your Workist contact person and provide:

- the **channel name**,
- the desired and the currently configured **team**,
- for email issues, the **inbox name** from the [Incoming Documents → Email](/en/docs/channel-configuration/incoming-documents.md) section.
